The Community of Waterhen has a population of 166 people year-round and 100 additional people throughout the cottage season.

The community employs a full-time Public Works employee who is also a certified Water Operator, 2 part-time Public Works employees, a Community Constable, a part-time Back-Up Water Operator, a part-time Recreation Director, and a Rink Operator.
Volunteer Fire DepartmentWaterhen has its own volunteer Fire Department. Approximately 20 volunteer Fire Fighters are with the department, who do ongoing training twice monthly under the direction of Fire Chief Doug Popowich.
Waterhen currently owns 1 fire truck, and 1 rescue and water tanker truck. They also have a Zodiac boat for water rescue.
Ambulance StationAlso housed at the Waterhen Fire Hall is the Ambulance Station for Waterhen and the surrounding areas. It is funded and run by the Parkland Regional Health Authority.
The Ambulance Station currently has four regular employees and 2 casual employees who serve this area.
Water Treatment PlantWaterhen has a 2 year old Water Treatment Plant that services the community of Waterhen and currently is piping water to Meadow Portage.
Waterhen SchoolWaterhen School is located in the community of Waterhen. Our school falls under the jurisdiction of Frontier School Division. The school is a Nursery-Grade 9 facility. We have an Adult Education site located within the school yard.
Waterhen School serves the communities of Mallard, Rockridge and Waterhen. All students are bussed. At present, there are 84 students with a staff of 20.
